Helena Wood November 2016 College Readiness Period:3 Is College is worth it: In today s world, a college degree has great significance. It is worth the effort to obtain a degree, and this is due to the increasing wages that come with a degree, the lowering of unemployment rates, and having a degree is a requirement for many jobs. Having a college degree will get you far in life. For example the wage gap increases between high school graduates and college graduates, at the rate the degree does. The higher a degree one has the more money they make. As one’s degree goes up, as does their earning gap. â€Å"...individuals with a four-year college degree earned about 43% more on average than those with only a high school degree...† (FRBSF Economic letter). The more education you have the more money you make. If you have only a high school diploma then you will make significantly less. College is an investment and it pays itself back the farther you get in the working world. â€Å"...the difference between earnings continues such that the average college graduate earns over $800,000 more than the average high school graduate by retirement age...† It also drastically lowers the rate of unemployment, † (FRBSF Economic letter). You are earning close to a million dollars more than you would otherwise with a degree. Making money is key in survival, this day and age. Today in the United States, illegal immigrants has become a subject that has left many people upset and angry of the view on deportation. Unfortunately at the cost of personal relationships and attachments with friends and family. Yet in 1947,Helbert Leyman hit the topic of immigration right on the head by saying,â€Å" We are a nation of immigrants. It is immigrants who brought to this land the skills of their hands and brains to make of it a beacon of opportunity and hope for all men (Messener,et al, 127).† Immigrants hands built this country of ours, what it is today. Fast Forward sixty-six years to the present, and these words by Herbert Lehman still ring true today. What does your character want in the scene? In act 4 scene 2 of Macbeth, Ross’ goal is to calm Lady Macbeth down after telling her about the departure of Macduff, her husband.
